I watched this TEDxFindhorn talk by Jonathan Dawson recently and thought of how theses themes totally should apply to the architectural education as well. Loved it …

We are all learning 🙂
In class, I try to bring the students into different “mindsets” so they start generating new ideas from different perspectives. So astonishing how many steps they have to move backwards to start seeing the whole picture. It is a long way to move from the planner’s perspective to the user’s and even further to feeling as part of the story.
We played a mindset game, asking the students to imagine that humankind had found a new planet to live on and that they were the ones to decide whom and what to bring there on a one-way flight. After one or two hours of thinking and discussing they start to realize what cultural heritage, society, infrastructure, architecture and all we tend to take for granted really means. Now, I will try to bring them and their relation with their own profession more to life by using Jonathan’s ideas! 🙂
